AA V KK Bad Beat

Hi All,

I was playing in a cash game, ?20/?40 no limit, when I got dealt pocket rockets. I was in late position and every one had called before flop up untill the guy before me who raised about ?200. I re-raised him ?500 and he responded by re-raising me ?800 after everyone else folded.

I put him at KK for such a big re-raise but I was obviously leading with AA bearing in mind that AA will win 88% of the time in a heads up, I went all in for a little over ?1500, he called. So now there is about ?3200 give or take a few quid in the pot and we have not even seen the flop yet.

Sure enough he turns over KK and I turn over my AA, at which point I bet he was gutted. But the Poker Gods where not smiling on me as the flop came down............K K 6

Nightmare, he flops 4 of a kind and I know I need and absolute miracle to save me now, which of course does not happen. So, did I do the right thing going all in or should I have just called the ?800 and saw the flop? If I had I would have saved myself ?700 but of course if the flop had been different and I went all in with my remaining ?700 he most likely would not have called if an Ace had come up or a flush or straight draw. If nothing came up then he proberly would have called an all in at that point. I would have to say going all in was the right thing to do, I had the best hand at the time.

Anyway, its not as bad as having your AA beat by someone making a straight on the river with a 7 9 in their hand I know. So I dont know if it really qualifies as a bad beat as such but if felt pretty bad at the time... ;o)

Cheers all, John
